Dr. Seuss Party: Green Eggs & Ham

by Courtney on June 11, 2010

While I was browsing over at Whimsy & Wise Events‘ blog earlier, I discovered this darling children’s party designed by Erin of Blue-Eyed Bride for her son Hudson’s first birthday!  I almost dropped my laptop (yes, really!) when I saw this party- it’s that cute. My brother is quite the Dr. Seuss fan so I’ve grown up loving these whimsical stories!

Green Eggs & Ham Party

Erin is a former event planner and newlywed! She designed this party with some help from her talented Mom too!

Here are just a FEW of my favorite parts:

Pinwheels & Wreath: The cute orange pinwheels were placed in the front yard to greet guests! Erin’s Mom added the ribbon and Green Eggs & Ham book to the wreath – I love this detail! And when guests entered, they signed the guest book which was a copy of Green Eggs & Ham for Hudson to have as a keepsake from his party.

Dessert Table: WOW! One of the sweetest dessert tables I have seen.  In Erin’s words, “In the house, immediately to the right of the front door is the dining room where we set up the dessert table. My mom is a candy buffet master and hauled all of her beautiful containers all the way from Dallas. We also had cake balls and cupcakes in addition to all of the jelly beans, M&Ms, gummy orange and lime slices, circus peanuts, lollypops, and rock candy.”

Pictures: I adore showcasing pictures and love how Erin did it for Hudson! She placed images from his first year into green and orange buckets filled with jelly beans. The “Celebrate” painting is my favorite part – created by Nat Kat Designs!

Favors: Too cute! Sugar cookies iced to look like green ham!

Surprise Treat: As Erin said, “At the end of the party, we passed around creamsicles and limesicles made with either orange Crush, orange sherbet, and vanilla ice cream or 7-Up, lime sherbet, and vanilla ice cream. Like a Coke float, but even better! So yummy!” — So Yummy is RIGHT!

Erin has a great list of Party Planning Tips on her site, we’ve listed our favorite tip of Erin’s below but check out the others here!

More is more! When you think you’re all finished decorating, take a look around add something else. If you’re trying to make a punch with color, then find as many ways as possible to use that color. Always add more! When we finished decorating we had a couple of unused buckets and poms that had to go in one of the closets, but we were prepared. We had lots of stuff and found creative ways to use everything.”  - Erin of Blue-Eyed Bride
